Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer death in men and women in the United Kingdom and worldwide. Lung cancer accounts for over 30% of cancer deaths in men and 25% of cancer deaths in women. More women die as a result of lung cancer than breast cancer.
You should consider a CT Lung if you are over 35 or have one or more of the following symptoms or risk factors:
• A cough that does not go away or gets worse
• Chest pain that is often worse with deep breathing, coughing, or laughing
• Weight loss and loss of appetite
• Shortness of breath
• Weakness or fatigue
How it works:
The patient lies in the scanner and computerised images of the lung are acquired in a matter of minutes, using a low dose of radiation. The scanner is not claustrophobic and no needles or injections are required.
